During the month of December, Malawi Girl Guides Association conducted a market outreach activity in two trading centers. The outreach was conducted with the aim of disseminating information about gender-based violence and Sexual and reproductive health.
Each incident of gender-based violence is a violation of human rights that can have a significant impact on the survivor’s safety, health and quality of life. Survivors of GBV can suffer significant health consequences, including unwanted pregnancies, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, physical trauma and even death.
Malawi Girl Guides Association (MAGGA) through EVAWG project, with funding from Norwegian Church Aid Malawi/DCA is Strengthening the capacity of community leaders to create violence-free environment through reduction of the vulnerability of adolescent girls and young women.
Today , the EVAWG team is orienting community leaders and school authorities from Dzoole-B ADC in Dowa District on “Making our Communities Safe” manual.
Enhanced collaboration amongst stakeholders and partners is the key factor to consider in an effort to eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls. It is against this background that MAGGA conducted a four-day training of law enforcers, judicial personnel and health workers in clinical management of rape/SGBV, PSS and referral services. The training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of health personnel, law enforcers and social workers on how to sensitize communities on GBV issues, proper referral and clinical management of GBV Cases, giving proper psychosocial support to GBV survivors and understanding judicial procedures and related sections.
