A. ACCOUNTANT
Location: Lilongwe
The Accountant will support all aspects of financial and project management for Malawi Girl Guides Association (MAGGA). This will include project accounting, audit, budgetary controls and monitoring of financial performance and compliance with Donor policies and procedures. The position will provide the program staff with financial advice, support the completion of assigned project and donor reporting, manage audit functions and assist with the administrative and coordination duties associated with MAGGA.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
1. Budget Preparation, Monitoring, and Financial Management
2. Provide appropriate coordinated support to program staff, working across donor requirements in programme planning, delivery and financial administration for the Association
3. Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data in the financial system, including but not limited to project management
4. Facilitate verification of all programme payments, postings and financial acquittals and support month end and end of financial year reconciliations.
5. Prepare project financial budgets, including work plans, operational costs, and specific activities.
6. Monitor the overall Association budgets and forecasts against the following specific areas: Program plan or annual workplan; Outputs and outcomes; Commitments and project executions
7. Provide support to the Association in the development of annual budgets and allocation of available resources through integrated programming and project management processes.
8. Ensure all donor financial reports are prepared in a timely manner and with accurate information.
9. Support all aspects of financial management of the Association including forecasting, monitoring of project executions, pipeline and financial analysis.
10. Support financial monitoring and reporting across all income and expenditure streams to meet with MAGGA and donor audit requirements.
11. Support the preparation of reports on operational performance against annual performance measures and targets.
12. Support internal and external audit exercises and ensure maximum level of compliance.
13. Ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations, including filing of tax returns, withholding taxes, and VAT compliance, as applicable to all MAGGA activities.
14. Ensure systematic filing of all financial and procurement documents.
Person Specifications
1. Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related professional qualification.
2. A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a similar position for a non-governmental
3. organization.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Proven attention to detail, follow-through skills, and problem-solving skills.
6. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize heavy workloads in order to meet sensitive deadlines.
