The family of Eliya Kamzati went through hell when Mr Kamzati was into excessive smoking and drinking, according to his wife.
At some point I was forced to borrow money from Village Sav- ings and Loans (VSL) because my husband had opted out to support them.
“But the drinking was not doing him well. He had a problem of hiccups each time he drank Kachasu, which was also the reason why he quit drinking but kept on smoking.
“But after a training by MAGGA at Changoni he changed instantly. Actually, in the course of the training he handed me some money for household purposes,” narrated Mrs Kamzati.
Like Mrs Kamzati, Mr Kamzati said life has become much better since he quit drinking and smoking.
“I had quit the drinking because of the hiccups but for the smoking, it was after a training by MAGGA which took us through lessons on how to manage our families and how to raise our children responsibly.
“Before, my children actually ran away when I arrived home from my drinking sprees because I was so violent and quar- relled with my wife so much but now I am able to talk to my children nicely on a number of issues including the disadvantages of drinking and smoking,” said Mr Kamzati.
The family is now enjoying peace and in unison they have grown two acres of soya beans which they plan to sell and use the money to buy iron sheets for their house.
