Backson Tsokonongo, Primary Education Adviser (PEA) for Mitundu Zone in Lilon- gwe East, heaped praise on the successes the campaign MAGGA carried out in his area of jurisdiction on the effects of drug and substance abuse vowing that he will make sure that it is sustained.
We used to see a lot of girls in schools moving about aimlessly with boys, a sign to us that they were taking either alcohol or some drugs that were disturbing them.
“But this project has helped quite a lot because after we were sensitized, we also took an initiative to sensitize teachers in all our schools, parents and the children themselves about the same and there have been significant changes,” said Tsokonon- go.
He said as one way of continuing with the programme even after MAGGA is gone, they will continue to encourage the trained teachers not to stop with the work they already started.
“We have committees that have been managing this in the Zone. We will contin- ue assisting the girls with information so that they continue saying NO to drug and substance abuse,” he said.
