A representative of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chiseka, Group Village Headman Motolosi, admitted the problem of drug and substance abuse in his area and pledged that he will support Malawi Girl Guide Association (MAGGA) in their endeavours.

It is true that the problem is prev- alent. As you may aware, Mitundu is a popular trading centre and the availability of alcohol and Indian hemp is in abundance such that our children easily get access. But since MAGGA came in with this campaign, the problem has been jostled down,” said Motolosi.

He added: “At first were sceptical with their [MAGGA] motives, but after they started engaging us we were well informed about their agenda and we have noticed a great change in the behaviour of our children.

” According to him, in collaboration with neighbouring chiefs such as Chadza and Masula, they have worked on drinking joints owners to stop allowing children to sell any good during school hours at their premises.

“After this campaign, T/A Chiseka will invite all his subordinates to brief them about this [MAGGA] project so that it is sustained even after they are gone,” he said.
